I recently wrote a post showing how to draw a star in Procreate and then make it into a stamp brush. After writing the post, I made a lot of star stamp brushes and added some of them to our Resource Library. if you’re a subscriber to our site, you can download them for free! Scroll to the end of the article for more information about subscribing and downloading the brushes.
Star Brushes Included:
The star brush set includes 18 star brush stamps.
There’s a solid star, a striped star, a wavy striped star, a swirly striped star, and an inner outline star.
There are five outlined stars including a star outline, a thick outline, a double outline, an outline made of stars, and an outline made of dots.
There’s a star filled with dot cutouts and a star filled with star cutouts. Some of the stars and dots within these stars are semi-transparent.
There are three stars with textures: a nebula star, a painted star, and a texture star.
And there are three glowing stars. These look best when they’re used on a dark background.
How to Use the Brushes
After downloading and importing the brushes into Procreate, tap on the paintbrush icon and locate the MTM Stars brush set and choose a brush.
Tap on the color swatch and choose a color. Use the size slider on the side of the screen to set the size. Then just tap on the screen to stamp the brush onto the canvas.
If a star is stamped on its own layer, just tap on the arrow to select it. Then you can move it, rotate it using the green node, or press Uniform at the bottom of the screen and drag the nodes to resize it.
Drag different colors from the color swatch into areas of the star to fill them with that color.
Examples of How to Design with the Brushes
Add words on top of the stars
Use lettering or text to write on top of the stars after you stamp them on the screen.
Use the stars as a frame for words or quotes
Use stars to add interest to quotes
Use the stars within text, lettering, or graphics
Fill graphics, text, or lettering with stars. For instance, one way to fill lettering with stars is to write a word then tap on the layer and press Alpha Lock. Then you can stamp the stars inside the word easily.
Import outside textures to create interesting effects with the brushes
You can create your own textures or find some to download online. For instance, we have a few watercolor textures available for free in our Resource Library.
Import a texture into Procreate and then you can use it in a lot of different ways.
One way is to have the star on it’s on layer and the texture on the layer above it. Then tap on the texture layer and in the pop-out menu press Clipping Mask. This will fill the star with the texture.
These are just a few examples of how you can use these brushes to design in Procreate.
