Stamps Included in the Flowers Brush Set
The brush set includes 25 floral and spring elements.
There are flowers, leaves and vines, butterflies, a dragonfly, and a bird.
Using the Flowers Brush Set
Tap on the paintbrush icon and locate the Flowers brush set. Choose a brush.
Choose a color. Use the size slider on the side of the screen to choose a size. Then tap on the screen to place a stamp on the canvas.
Resizing and Moving the Stamps
Resizing the stamps
You can modify individual brushes that you’ve stamped on the canvas. It’s a good practice to put the stamps on separate layers so that you can easily modify them. To select a brush stamp that’s on the screen, make sure you’re on its layer. Then tap the arrow icon in the upper left of the screen. Now you can move the brush stamp around or resize it.
You can resize an image in two ways. In this example, I’ve used the Butterfly 2 brush. There are options at the bottom of the screen. If you tap Freeform you can change the proportions of the butterfly when you size it. For instance, you can make it wider. Just drag the nodes to resize.
If you press Uniform, you can resize the butterfly proportionally.
Flipping the stamps
To flip a stamp that’s on the screen, select it. Then at the bottom of the screen tap Flip Horizontal or Flip Vertical. You can also rotate the stamp by dragging the green node when it’s selected. Flipping and rotating can be useful when adding leaves to the flowers.
Add Some Color
Recolor areas of the flower
Drag a color into certain areas of the stamps to change their colors. For instance, you can recolor some of the flowers’ petals or make the center of some of the flowers yellow.
Fill in transparent areas
Several of these brushes can be modified by adding extra color to the transparent areas between petals or inside of leaves. Just drag the color from the color swatch icon into the transparent area. You may want to use your thumb and forefinger to pinch out on the screen to zoom way in on the area you want to fill with color. Then pinch inwards on the screen to zoom out.
Sometimes it’s difficult to fill in these small lines. If you have difficulty doing so, there’s an easy solution.
For this example I’ll use the Leaf 1 brush.
After stamping the leaf on the canvas, make a new layer and then tap and hold on it until you can move it underneath the leaf layer.
Tap on the color swatch icon and select a different shade of green for the leaf veins. I used a darker shade of green.
Then select the Monoline brush in the Calligraphy set.
Use the size slider on the side of the screen to change the size of the brush to your liking. Pinch out on the screen to zoom in on the leaf. Now use the Monoline brush to paint the color behind the leaf so they show through the transparent veins.
When you’re done, tap on the layers button to open the layers menu. Then tap on the leaf layer until the fly-out menu appears. Then tap Merge Down to merge the leaf with the painted veins layer.
Paint on top of floral elements
It’s easy to add texture, paint, or draw on the stamps. Just tap on the stamp’s layer and press Alpha Lock in the fly-out menu.
Now choose a brush and paint on top of the stamp. The paint will be constrained inside the stamp area.
Paint some elements outside of the brushes
Sometimes you might want to add something extra to the brushes such as adding a stem to a flower. To add a stem, create a new layer and then drag it underneath the flower layer and any leaf layers.
Choose the same color as any surrounding leaves. Get the Monoline brush and draw a stem. When you’re done, merge the flower and leaves and stem layers together.
There are so many ways to use these brushes. Use them to add a something extra to a design. Or make some floral wreaths:
You could also make floral banners:
If you want to make floral banners, you can get some free banners in our Resource Library and follow the instructions in our Make Floral Banners in Procreate post. These are just some design ideas. Have fun and happy spring!
