We recently had a lot of fun getting out our watercolor paints and paper and blending different colors together to create interesting textures to use as backgrounds. After painting, we digitized the artwork and tried the backgrounds out on some different projects. They worked really well as backdrops for quotes and as fills for graphics. They worked so well, we have plans for trying them in other projects.
Because we’re so happy with them, we want to share them with our subscribers! You can find them in our free Resource Library.
After subscribing to our Resource Library, you’ll be able to download the backgrounds in a ZIP file. The file includes 8 PNG high resolution watercolor textures with transparent backgrounds. The dimensions of the backgrounds vary slightly.
Ideas We’ve Tried for Designing with the Textures
Use them as backgrounds for quotes
These these textures work great for highlighting quotes or sayings. You can import them into a number of graphic design programs such as Procreate, Photoshop, or Illustrator. Then just add a new layer and add text, lettering, or other graphics on top of them. Here’s some examples that I made in Procreate:
Use a clipping mask on text, lettering, or other graphics
You can use a clipping mask to make the watercolor texture fill an object. To do this in Procreate, you’d simply add the watercolor texture on a layer above the object and then tap on the watercolor layer and press Clipping Mask in the pop-out menu. This is an effect that can also be accomplished in other applications such as Photoshop.
You could use any shape you want and fill it with the watercolors. For instance, if you wanted a geometric shape for a quote, just create the shape, add the watercolor texture to a layer on top of it, resize the watercolor as necessary, and use a clipping mask on the watercolor layer.
These are just a few of the possibilities we’ve explored for how to use these watercolor textures. We’re looking forward to experimenting more with them in future projects. We hope you’ll download them and try them out in your own projects.
